Rik Stevens
Rik Stevens (°1957) studied at the Kunsthumaniora and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Ghent. In addition to achieving several first prizes, he earned a higher degree in trombone as a student of Georges Vanhoutte. Later, he further specialized in alto trombone, euphonium, and tuba.
Since 1978, he has been associated as a music education teacher at the Sint-Jozefsinstituut in Tielt and is the head of a thriving class of brass instruments at the Academy for Music and Word in Tielt. Since 2008, he has also been a teacher of Music Theory for adults. He is frequently invited as a judge for competitions and exams in various music academies.
Rik Stevens serves as the conductor of the church choir 'Sint-Jozef Werkman' in Tielt and the school orchestra 'Giocoso,' with which he has performed both nationally and internationally. He is the founder of the youth orchestra 'The Young Ones,' and until recently, he was the president and active member of the Royal Harmony 'Vermaak na Arbeid.' Under his inspiring leadership, the association experienced an unparalleled period of success.
As a composer, he primarily writes for his choir and brass ensembles.
