Frédéric Quinet
In 2006 Frédéric obtained a degree in musicology at the University of Franche-Comté, also a degree for trumpet and chamber music in the class of Pierre Kumor at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Besançon. From 2006 to 2008, he went to Paris to study trumpet with Eric Aubier, with whom he also obtained a diploma in trumpet and a gold medal in 'musical education' at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Départemental de Montreuil-sous-Bois.
In 2008, he joined Manu Mellaerts' class at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where his studies were awarded 'une maitrise en interprétation' in 2013.
As he also studied composition at the same time as studying trumpet, he took advantage of his stay in Belgium to perfect himself in harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and composition with Jan d'Haene, Ann Kuppens and Jan van Landegem.
In 2013, he moved to Canada to pursue didactic training. He earned a diploma in pedagogy with Francis Dubé and a diploma in trumpet with Trent Sanheim at the Université Laval in Quebec in 2015. As soon as he arrived in Canada, he won a scholarship that allowed him to complete his studies in trumpet with James Thompson, professor at Rochester's Eastman School of Music in the United States (2013-2014).
Currently, Frédéric plays regularly as a freelancer with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec.
He is trumpeter with and founder of the brass Quintet Boréal Brass. He has also had the opportunity to play with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Drummondville, l'Opéra du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, l'Orchestre Symphonique Victor-Hugo de Besançon, l'Orchestre de l'Opéra 'La Monnaie'à Bruxelles and more recently with the brass quintet Buzz Brass from Montréal. He has also performed several times as a soloist with piano, organ or orchestra in France and Belgium, in Quebec and South Africa.
As an educator and teacher, Frederic already taught several courses and workshops in Europe and America at a young age. He currently teaches mainly in his private studio, which he inaugurated in 2015 (www. Fredericquinet-studio.com), and since January 2017 he has been professor of trumpet at the Conservatoire de Musique de Saguenay à Chicoutimi. He is also currently pursuing a PhD on the interpretation of the piccolo trumpet repertoire at Université Laval.
