Jo Elbert
Jo Elbert was born in 1955 in Tournai, but grew in Kortrijk, where he follows music classes at the Municipal Conservatory. His instrument is the horn and he decides to pursue his studies at the Royal Conservatory in Ghent. He obtains there qualifications for horn, harmony, counterpoint and fugue.
Since 1976 he combines a position as orchestra musician with a part-time job as a teacher in music. Hence, besides orchestral and choral works, he composes several pieces for solo instrument and piano accompaniment to be used in music schools. Inspried by the all-encompassing laws of nature, he strives to direct and simple expressiveness.
Composing is for him an expression of wonder, a discovery, an experiment. The educational repertoire is not oriented towards the technical characteristics of each instrument, but are based on purely artistic-musical ideas, elaborated in a simple and concise form.
