Hannes Vanlancker
Hannes Vanlancker (1987) began his musical studies at 'Pro Musica' in Tielt with Gilbert Hinnekint and Joris Bouckaert. Later he studied the piano and horn at the local music academy. He took composition courses with Wim Henderickx and Diederik Glorieux in Neerpelt.
Hannes obtained his Master’s degree in music theory at the Royal Antwerp Conservatory. During his studies he also followed composition (Wim Henderickx) and band conducting (Dirk De Caluwé, Steven Verhaert and Jan Hadermann). He also obtained a Master’s degree in band conducting.
The composition ‚Trots’ for wind ensemble was placed in the finals of the composition contest of the the Dutch Wind Ensemble, in collaboration with VARA. ‚Trots’ was performed in concert halls in Oisterwijk, Tilburg and Utrecht. The Belgian premiere of this work took place June 16, 2006.
In July 2006 he was commissioned to write two works in collaboration with choreographer Filip Van Hulle for the music and dance project Amuzans that took place in October 2006.
In February 2006 he was nominated by VerDi for „Young Composer of the Year 2006” and in February 2008 he became a laureate of the VerDi composition contest with his work „Mijn droom” for flute solo.
Besides composing, Hannes was conductor of youth harmony The Young Ones Tielt, youth harmony Roeselare, assistant conductor at Royal Choir and Orchestra Zanglust Tielt and Concertband Crescendo Bissegem. He is currently the principal conductor of the Royal Wind Band of Hooglede-Gits. He also plays gigs regularly with his ensemble HEAL that was founded in 2007.
Hannes is a teacher at the SAMW Menen and lecturer at the Vives High School. He works freelance as music engraver, arranger and composer.
