Tom Hoornaert

TomTom Hoornaert (November 13, 1972) took his first steps in the world of music with Mrs. Katrien Verbeke (piano) and Mr. Joost D'hont (organ). These musicians prepared him for further studies at both the Lemmens Institute in Leuven with Prof. Luc Ponet and at the Music College in Maastricht with the late Prof. Dorthy De Rooij. He also obtained a degree in choral conducting in Maastricht with Prof. Ludo Claesen.

In 1991 Tom became "First Laureate" of the National Music Competition "Pro Civitate" with highest distinction, 95%.

In the City of Tielt, Tom works as organist at the main church St.-Pieter, teacher of organ-piano-carillon accompaniment practice and accompanist at the 'SAMW'. Tom also teaches organ at the GAMWD in St.-Pieters-Woluwe (Brussels) and piano at the Academy of Arts in Zwevegem.

The choir 'Cantiga' (Tielt) and the choir 'Cantando' (Oedelem) are under his direction.

As founder of the musical company Mathea (www.mathea.be), Tom performed the productions "Much Luck Professor," "Nonsens," "The Sound of Music," "Annie" and "Sleeping Beauty." At Mathea, Tom is also a conductor.

To promote the organ, not only as a liturgical, but also as a concert instrument, the organ circle "Chamade" (www.orgelkringchamade.be) was founded under his impulse. With it, he brings concerts on all Saturdays during the month of September in collaboration with other instrumentalists and vocalists.

As organist/accompanist/conductor Tom has already given several concerts in the Netherlands, Hungary, Portugal, Poland, Italy (together with "Belgian Brass" Kon. Muntschouwburg), England (including the prestigious Town Hall and Wadham College in Oxford, Blenheim Palace in Woodstock) & Sweden.

Together with tenor Stefaan Vandenbroucke he forms the duo "Quodlibet".
Manu Mellaerts (1st solo trumpet player "Kon. Muntschouwburg") and Tom Hoornaert are regularly on stage together with a varied program, from baroque to contemporary music.
David Van Maele ( 1st solo E-flat clarinet "Kon. Muziekkapel van de Gidsen") and Tom Hoornaert form the unique duo "Codato" (www.codato.eu).
