Emiel F.A.J. Stöpler
Emiel F.A.J. Stöpler is a guitarist, writer, and composer. He began taking classical guitar lessons around his eighteenth birthday and, after a tumultuous musical journey, went on to study guitar as his main subject for several years at the conservatories of Zwolle and Rotterdam. He also studied composition for several years at the conservatory of Ghent.
Emiel has composed over 200 musical works for various ensembles, some of which have been published by different music publishers in Belgium, Canada, and the Netherlands. Additionally, he wrote the music for the permanent exhibition "Friesland Onder Water" at the Fries natural history museum and the leader music for a DVD production titled "Etty" (2015), a recording of a solo performance by actress Margreet Blanken depicting the life of Etty Hillesum.
In 2013, his first CD "Stargazing" was released, followed by the album "Reminiscence" a few years later, both featuring works for solo acoustic steel-string guitar. A new album is currently in the works. Emiel spent several years working as a program maker at Concertzender, curating radio programs with accessible, contemporary classical music from after 1960.
He was also a part of the music group "Blend" until 2022, comprising a flutist/singer, a clarinetist, Emiel on guitar, and a double bassist. For this group, Emiel created a program with music, stories, and historical sagas titled "Verhalen langs de IJssel" (2022). In January 2022, Emiel released his book "Piano Vitamins," featuring piano works for the slightly advanced piano student, accompanied by YouTube recordings.
More recently, Emiel delivered a solo guitar performance at RTV Oost, and his music was featured in an episode of the popular program "Tussen Kunst en Kitsch." With a new program that focuses on sagas, stories, and unknown fairy tales, complemented by songs and instrumental pieces, he now performs with the ensemble "Strings & Stuff." This ensemble consists of a storyteller/singer, a violinist, and Emiel himself on guitar.
