Among his solo concertos, the four works for solo bassoon are particularly significant: he did not assign more soloistic tasks to any other instrument.
The Concerto in G major GWV 328 is the shortest of the four bassoon concertos, but is in no way inferior to the others in terms of intensity of expression and soloistic profile. The basic character of the opening Allegro is energetic, due to the syncopated style with which the main motif of the movement begins. Together with the downward run that follows it, it ensures a consistent liveliness and motor skills of the movement. Solo instrument and orchestra are closely interlinked: in a short space the partners keep playing the balls to each other. The expressive largo, which is completely dominated by the bassoon, is followed by the final movement in two-part repetition, thematically profiled, this time it is dominated by triplet play around the solo instrument, which consolidates the unity of the concert.
