Peter Noten

photo NotenPeter_1Peter Noten (b. 1966) received his first musical education at the Academy of Music, Drama and Dance in Beringen, and then chose for professional music studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. He graduated there in 1990 and became ‘Laureate Organ’ in the class of Reitze Smits, and obtained first prizes in music theory, harmony and counterpoint. After two years of further studies he was awarded with a first prize Fugue, in the class of Jan Haderman.

As organist-accompanist he was associated with the decanal church in Tessenderlo for about ten years. Currently he plays monthly on the Bammertz-organ in Bilzen. As a composer he regularly writes new works, often educational music for music schools or for choirs. On the text of a local poet from Hoeselt, he wrote a suite for choir.

He is also active as a choirmaster at the ‘Ankerkoor’ in Tessenderlo and ‘Het Daghet’ uit Lommel. He was also conductor for 10 years of the vocal group Aveland from Hoeselt. He worked as a teacher Organ and Accompaniment Practice until 2003 in the academies of Lanaken, Tongeren and Tessenderlo.

Since September 2003 he has worked as a director at the Academy Genk. He is also active in the association ‘Organum Alden Biesen’ and the Diocesan Organ Commission, Diocese of Hasselt.
