The Entrata GWV 453 may have been composed between 1730 and 1735 and is scored for string ensemble only, like approximately half of the overture suites. Given the unassuming and simple scoring, the compositional and atmospheric variety offered by Graupner in these four movements is remarkable. It ranges from an exceedingly expressive opening movement dominated by sus­pensions in the overture with its contrapuntally conceived outer sections to a Gavotte en Rondau as the closing movement. The latter could not sound any more worldly and folk-like, if not humorous with its emphasis on driving semitones in the first and second violins – not unlike music heard at a large fair.

Die Entrata GWV 453 in G-dur, möglicherweise in der ersten Hälfte der 1730er Jahre entstanden, ist wie etwa die Hälfte der Ouvertüren nur für ein Streicherensemble geschrieben. So bescheiden und schlicht die Besetzung daherkommt, so erstaunlich ist doch die satztechnische und atmosphärische Bandbreite, mit der Graupner in den vier Sätzen aufwartet: Sie reicht vom äußerst ausdrucksintensiven, vorhaltdominierten Eröffnungssatz, der Ouverture im engeren Wortsinn mit ihren kontrapunktisch angelegten Rahmenteilen bis zu einer Gavotte en Rondeau als Schlusssatz, die irdischer und volkstümlicher kaum daherkommen könnte, witzig mit den insistierenden Sekundbewegungen in erster und zweiter Violine – man könnte meinen, einen Hauch von Jahrmarkt zu hören.
