Der Rosenkavalier Suite - Large Brass Ensemble: 6tpt/4hn/3tbn/euph/2tuba/4perc
In Der Rosenkavalier, Richard Strauss dreamed of the world of Mozart, a time that seemed so unblemished and angelic on the eve of World War I. Thus Strauss drew the Vienna of the eighteenth century with its stands and mores, but curiously also with late-nineteenth-century waltzes, and a sometimes overripe super-romantic orchestral sound. Der Rosenkavalier was an immediate success, with the result that Strauss soon composed a suite featuring the prelude and some of the opera's highlights.
